If you’re reading this, then you probably already have an idea about how beautiful and wonderful English Cream Golden Retrievers are. If you’re trying to make sure that they’re the perfect pet for you before you buy, then you’re in the right place.
English Cream Golden Retrievers are a lot like American Goldens. They’re playful, friendly, energetic, extremely smart, and easy to train! The biggest difference is their color. English Creams, especially the ones we breed at Rocky Mountain Canines, are a beautiful all-over light shade of cream, or white. They have been bred for this specific reason, but there are some other differences from American Goldens that make them even more special.
An English Cream Golden Retriever is right for you if you’re looking for a dog that is medium-sized, weighing anywhere from 50-75 pounds and around 20-24 inches tall. They are friendly and loyal and more often calmer than American Golden Retrievers. They also tend to be a bit healthier and live longer!
You should know that, like most dogs, English Cream Golden Retrievers shed a lot! They have a double coat that sheds throughout the year, but most heavily during spring and winter. Shedding is part of having a dog, but we highly recommend that, if dog hair bothers you, you get a good dog hair vacuum! We love the Dyson V10 that easily sucks up all the dog hair in your home.
One of the best things about English Creams is that they are super smart! They are easy to train so potty training usually happens relatively quickly and they enjoy the bonding that training provides. They absolutely love to be rewarded with food, so as long as you have treats, pretty much anyone can teach them anything! They will catch on quickly and they’ll remember it the next time too!
English Creams are a great balance of active and chill. Like all puppies, young English Creams have a lot of energy and will require attention, training, and exercise. As they get to be a year and older, they still require regular exercise-a big yard or daily walks, but they also tend to be very calm dogs. They’ll never pass up a chance to play, but they’ll also realize that it’s time to relax when you are relaxing.
English Creams are also extremely gentle and patient with babies and kids. We brought home a newborn baby to our 6-month-old puppy and 18-month-old dog and they didn’t pay much attention to him at first. As our baby has gotten more active and interested in our dogs, they have allowed him to crawl over them, grab their faces and their fur, and crawl in the middle of their playing sessions, all without making any attempt to warn him or hurt him. We never worry about any growling or biting with this breed!
Overall, English Creams are just an absolute joy to have in your home. They will love you, do anything to please you, and make you laugh with their silly sleeping positions and when chasing after toys. They easily become part of the family and have an endless amount of cuddles and kisses to give anyone who wants them. We love our English Creams so much and can’t wait for you to experience the joy of bringing one into your home!
